Actress Rebel Wilson weight loss “emotional” journey
Rebel Wilson found her on a slightly heavier roller coaster when she was 20 years old, losing a few kilos and then getting them back. She expressed that she desired to be a mother after freezing her eggs. Her weight loss journey started when she visited a fertility doctor who recommended that she’d have a much better chance to freeze her eggs if she lost weight.
“He looked me up and down and said, ‘You’d do much better if you were healthier,’ “She recalled during an interview with PEOPLE magazine.
”I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh God, this’s guy’s so rude.’ He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier.“
Wilson considers fertility an option, telling people she would like to have a family with or without her partner.
“Any woman who’s gone through it, I really relate to,” she said in her PEOPLE interview. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. I don’t know how it’s going to end. But I’m still young enough to try,” she spoke.
Her weight loss also brought big changes in her relationships.
“Sometimes being bigger, people didn’t necessarily look twice at you. And now that I’m in a good shape, like, people offer to carry my groceries to the car and hold doors open for you. I was like: ‘Is this what other people experienced all the time?’ Rebel says
The reason behind her transformation;
Future child’s needs inspired Rebel to change herself. She knew that if she cared for herself, she could take better care of her child. According to her, she has no plan to get a certain weight.
‘It wasn’t a goal to get to a certain weight. It was just the healthiest version of me,’ she said in an interview.
The emotional side of her weight loss:
“It was about dealing with the emotional issues that caused me to emotionally eat, and that’s a process,” she told PEOPLE magazine.
Wilson’s transformation was about much more than weight; It was also about dealing with the emotional issues that caused her to eat emotionally.
“You cry a lot, analyze things. I’d never done that before. It’s really hard to know why you don’t feel worthy when people look at my life on paper and say you’ve done all these amazing things. That’s what I’m trying to overcome,” She stated.
Rebel Wilson’s views about body image:
She always gives importance to body image and talks about it openly.
“There is a societal bias towards what society deems as good-looking. It’s not right,” she told PEOPLE.
“You want to celebrate all body types but I also want to encourage people to be healthy.” She added.
Wilson has always been an advocate for body positivity throughout her career. “Fat Amy is her favourite character, which she has played in the pitch-perfect movie. She can relate to “Fat Amy.”
” I loved representing and I was so confident. But at the same time, I did feel at times insecure. Sometimes it’s hard doing a photo shoot next to your fellow actress and she’s a third of the size of you. I was invisible in a way even when I was an international movie star,” she says.
“I know what it’s like to be on the other side of that coin,” she added. “And now I know what’s it’s like to get attention in the positive. There is a societal bias towards what society deems as good-looking. It’s not right. It sucks, it’s unfair. I feel sad if somebody doesn’t love the body they’re in. You want to celebrate all body types but I also want to encourage people to be healthy, “She explains.

1. Accept your imperfection.
Wilson has never been restrictive like a beast. She decides to attack health from each angle. As earlier mentioned, her goal was not to attain a certain weight. She just did it if the child needs. She always owns herself and accepts who she is.
2. Nail your “why” down.
Wilson’s “why” was to be healthy before freezing eggs so she could have children later.
It was also about feeling better about yourself and controlling your emotional eating. One should know the reason behind the change.
3. Get real with yourself.
In early 2020, Wilson wrote a letter to her to further clarify her commitment to health. Wilson has diagnosed the polycystic ovarian syndrome in her 20s.
4. Find your favorite way to get fit.
She lost more of her weight from walking. “It’s free, it’s safe,”
Wilson says on life. Six days out of seven each week, Wilson aims to do 60 minutes of exercise a day. One day a week is for rest. Wilson also went on Instagram to show how she exercises her arm while walking with a bottle of vodka!
5. Dial-in your nutrition.
“You can’t out-train a bad diet, which is something I should have known but didn’t know until this year,” Wilson said.
She used to eat fast food several times a week when she was a kid. Her goal was to stick to 1,500 calories or less when losing weight. Wilson adjusted to 2,000 to 2,500 calories per day during the “year of health”. After some time, Wilson discovered that she feels best on a high-protein diet. She consumes food very mindfully.
6. Love yourself.
“I’m a very confident, skilled, accomplished person, but I still suffer from having low self-worth and just not loving myself,” she says.
She sets a 12-minute timer and then writes down all her emotions, so they don’t stay inside. She ends with one to five things for which she is grateful that day.
Wilson says to BBC, “I’m proud that the message has gotten across that it wasn’t just about losing weight, it was just about me being healthier overall. I’m trying to encourage other people out ther, that should be the goal, not to fit some sort of beauty standard that society deems is the beauty standard of that year.”
